The intent of this project is to promote pedestrian safety by upgrading the existing crosswalk and creating a traffic calming feature to add awareness of the upcoming urbanized resort area.
The project is envisioned to provide a clear definition of the transition from the National Seashore to Pensacola Beach. An ADA compliant crosswalk will be provided with enhanced design features, raised medians to provide a pedestrian refuge area and other traffic calming features. Traffic calming will consist of signage, pavement texturing and possible lane width reduction to induce motorist awareness of the land use change. A gateway sign is included in the scope of the project as well. The project termini is approximately 800' east and west of the Portofino Entrance.
The Board of County Commissioners, at its 4/23/15 regular meeting, approved a change order to the Pensacola Beach Master Plan for Baskerville-Donovan, Inc to provide the design services for the project .
