The North Palafox Complete Streets Improvements project is located in District 3. This project begins at Highway 29 and ends at Nine Mile Road. The purpose of the project is to better accommodate the economic revitalization of the Ensley and Oakfield Community Redevelopment Areas. This pedestrian infrastructure enhancement project contributes to Escambia County’s goal to revitalize and enhance the quality of life within the CRA areas by encouraging private sector reinvestment, promoting economic development, and providing public sector enhancements.
Complete Street concepts are designed with the goal of increasing the safety and efficiency for non-vehicular modes of transportation. To accomplish this, project will investigate opportunities for multi-use paths as well as opportunities to detach sidewalk as far from travel way as possible. In areas where right-of-way width and drainage considerations dictate the need for sidewalks to be adjacent to the travel lane, curb and gutter systems can be used adjacent to the sidewalk, or buffered walkable paths may be considered.
This design project is funded through a grant from the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act (RESTORE Act).
