The Cooley Road Drainage Project, located in District 5, originated from a 2015 drainage complaint following several heavy rain events. Heavy roadway stormwater runoff was causing adjacent property flooding. Currently, runoff flows along Cooley Road and is collected by an existing asphalt curb and concrete flume located along the roadway. Some of the water is discharged on to residential property prior to entering the existing flume.
Escambia County has design plans to install curbing and an inlet to collect the water from the roadway that is impacting residential property. The design also includes adding a ditch-bottom inlet across the roadway that will discharge in a designated treatment area with rip-rap. The new discharge point will be further away from the original location onto an existing Gulf Power easement.
