On 9/21/2017, The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners approved a street light project in the Avondale Safe Neighborhood District. The Avondale neighborhood group requested lighting at 18 roadway intersections which are dark at night. The street lighting project will improve pedestrian and traffic safety along with illuminating dark spots to increase safety and reduce crime. The project is funded through the Escambia County Community Redevelopment Agency Safe Neighborhood Program.
