Escambia County has completed a new accessible paddlecraft launch at the Perdido Bay Park and Boat Ramp, offering additional recreational opportunities for the public this summer.
Located at the Perdido Bay Park and Boat Ramp, the paddlecraft launch is free to use and can accommodate several types of paddlecraft including kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. The paddlecraft launch is ADA accessible and is easily accessed from the boat ramp at the park.
“I’m excited to see this paddlecraft launch at the Perdido Bay Park and Boat Ramp open up for the public to enjoy this summer,” District 1 Commissioner Steve Stroberger said. “I’d like to thank our staff for working diligently to complete this project and provide our community with more opportunities to get outside and experience our local waterways.”
The new paddlecraft launch location is an important point along a planned collaboration with Alabama and the Nature Conservancy to create a Perdido River/Bay Paddling Trail that could ultimately connect with the 1,500-mile Florida Saltwater Circumnavigational Paddling Trail. Additional property acquisition and site development would be needed to connect with the trail in the future.
This project was funded through Deepwater Horizon NRDA funding.
The Perdido Bay Park and Boat Ramp is located at 10808 Lillian Highway. For a full list of boat ramps in Escambia County, visit MyEscambia.com.
