House Fire on Winthrop Avenue Results in Fatality

Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire in the 400 block of East Winthrop Avenue on Monday, May 4, which tragically resulted in the death of one individual.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., Escambia County Emergency Communications received multiple calls about a residential structure fire with one individual trapped inside. ECFR crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing from the home. Despite a rapid response and aggressive firefighting efforts by ECFR, one individual was found deceased inside the home.

The fire was brought under control by approximately 3:34 a.m. Due to significant damage, the home is a total loss.

Escambia County EMS, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and Navy Fire also provided assistance during the response. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosives.
