ECFR added the 12th and final red bulb to the wreath following a structure fire Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 4:34 a.m. in the 10000 block of Chemstrand Road. Firefighters arrived at a single-story wood-framed residence showing heavy flames and smoke. The fire was aggressively attacked and brought under control by 5:12 a.m. One patient was treated and transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS.
The structure is a total loss due to the significant damage. ECFR investigated and determined that a space heater caused the fire.
Keep the Wreath Green
During the month-long "Keep the Wreath Green" fire safety campaign, five-foot wreaths were displayed at 18 county fire stations and five city fire stations, as well as Escambia County's Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building downtown, the Escambia County Public Safety Building, Pensacola City Hall and Cordova Mall. Each time firefighters responded to a residential or commercial fire with damage, a green light bulb was replaced with a red one to remind citizens of the dangers posed by fires in residential and commercial buildings.
