Escambia County Installs Vessel Exclusion Zone Ahead of Blue Angels Weekend

Published Jul 9, 2025

On Tuesday, July 8, Escambia County Emergency Management deployed 24 buoys and signage in the soundside of Pensacola Beach to create a vessel exclusion zone for the upcoming Pensacola Beach Air Show.

The vessel exclusion zone will begin from the shoreline between Flounders and the Santa Rosa Island Authority Administrative Building and extend approximately 250 yards into the sound. The purpose of the vessel exclusion zone is to provide an access point for first responders entering and exiting the water when responding to calls.

While the vessel exclusion zone is in effect, boaters are prohibited from anchoring their boats within the red buoys. However, boaters may cross through the vessel exclusion zone while traveling to their destination.

"Your safety at the Blue Angel Air Show is paramount to Emergency Management," said Emergency Manager Travis Tompkins. "That is why we initiated the vessel exclusion zone for the first time. Every year, we have boaters injured in the highly congested area. This will help our first responders get to you much faster than ever before."
