Escambia County invites the community to a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. celebrating the completion of the Massachusetts Avenue Safety Improvement Project in Districts 2 and 3. The event will take place in front of Montclair Elementary School, located at 820 Massachusetts Ave. One or more Escambia County Commissioners may be in attendance.
Spanning approximately 2.5 miles along Massachusetts Avenue, from North “W” Street to Mobile Highway, the Massachusetts Avenue Safety Improvement Project includes improvements to the roadway, sidewalks, and stormwater infrastructure. Additional enhancements include lighting, crosswalk and drainage upgrades, and extra transit stops along the project site.
“I’m thankful to our staff for working diligently to complete this project, which I know will improve the quality of life for our residents in the area,” District 2 Commissioner and Chairman Mike Kohler said. “Projects like these are the result of LOST and CRA funds at work, which help provide vital infrastructure and safety improvements to the community. Massachusetts Avenue is an important connector in the community and I’m excited to celebrate the completion of this project.”
“I’m excited to see these long-awaited improvements to our community,” District 3 Commissioner Lumon May said. “Massachusetts Avenue is a vital corridor connecting District 2 and District 3. By fostering a more walkable and inviting environment, we can strengthen our neighborhood ties and improve human capital. Community is at the heart of Escambia County, and I’m thrilled to see this project come to life. I want to thank our staff for recognizing the importance of this project and working hard to complete this for our residents."
The Massachusetts Avenue Safety Improvement Project was managed by the Escambia County Engineering Department, with Roads, Inc. selected as the contractor and STV Company selected for CEI (Construction, Engineering and Inspection) through a competitive bid process.
