Escambia County is excited to recognize Chris Patterson, Library Service Technician at the Pensacola Library for West Florida Public Libraries, as the May 2025 Employee of the Month. Patterson’s selection was recognized during the May 1 BCC meeting.
“We are so proud of Chris and all his dedication to West Florida Public Libraries,” Library Director Todd Humble said. “His journey from part-time Computer Lab Assistant to full-time Library Clerk to his current role as a Library Service Technician exemplifies his exceptional work ethic and profound commitment to our mission. Each day, Chris makes a positive impact on every individual he encounters and ensures everyone who visits our libraries receives the support and guidance they deserve. His wealth of experience, knowledge, and genuine care make him an indispensable part of both the West Florida Public Libraries and our community at large.”
Patterson began his employment with the library in 2006 as a part-time employee in the computer lab. When the library transitioned from the City of Pensacola to Escambia County as West Florida Public Libraries, Patterson was brought on as a full-time employee, moving from the computer lab to the circulation help desk at the Pensacola Library.
In his role within the circulation department, Patterson delivers exceptional customer service with a positive attitude. Whether he’s helping patrons check materials in and out, handling fines and fees, or going the extra mile to assist patrons with reserving items, Patterson approaches each task with care, thoughtfulness, and efficiency. He is extremely knowledgeable of library policies and procedures, allowing him to answer patrons’ questions with ease. Library patrons regularly request Patterson’s assistance, and he is often recognized for going above and beyond for library visitors and his coworkers.
“I would like to thank God first of all for all that He has done for me,” Patterson said. “I would also like to thank the county for the recognition. Furthermore, Mr. Humble and all the people at the Main Library for the love and support. I’d also like to give a special shout out to Ms. Susan White for hiring me many years ago. It's been a long journey—19 years and all of them have been very special. Thank you so much for believing in me."

Chris Patterson received his May Employee of the Month proclamation at the May 1 Board of County Commissioners meeting.
