Escambia County invites the public to a ribbon cutting Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the new Ferry Pass Community Center, Escambia County's first community center in District 4.
This exciting addition to the Ferry Pass community features over 7,700 square feet of event space, along with a newly-installed playground and outdoor exercise equipment. The ribbon cutting event will take place at the community center, located at 8800 N. 9th Ave. One or more Escambia County Commissioners may be in attendance.
"I am thrilled to open our first community center in District 4, right in the heart of Ferry Pass," District 4 Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger said. "I'm so excited to see the Ferry Pass Community Center become a gathering place for residents of all ages, and I hope young families in the area will enjoy having a new playground in their neighborhood. As we continue to work to improve the quality of life for our residents, amenities like this are truly at the heart of what makes our community such a great place to live."
Escambia County Supervisor of Elections and former District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender, who spearheaded this initiative for District 4, expressed his appreciation to everyone involved with bringing the Ferry Pass Community Center to life.
"We hope this will become a central gathering place where the community can come together, whether it's for public meetings, family reunions, weddings or community events and activities," Supervisor Bender said. "This was truly a team effort by Escambia County staff and many others, and I'm especially proud that we focused on doing most of the work in-house at a cost savings to the county and our residents. I'd like to thank the University of West Florida for supporting our vision for this property to continue to benefit the community, county staff and leadership for their hard work on this project, and Commissioner Hofberger for stepping in and bringing it to fruition. I'm excited to see the Ferry Pass Community Center enjoyed by residents for many years to come."
The Ferry Pass Community Center offers a large event space with a stage, two smaller classrooms, restrooms, and a kitchen with an attached dining room or conference room.
Through the Ferry Pass Community Center project, the Escambia County Facilities Department completed numerous interior and exterior renovations to improve the building for public use. Upgrades included new flooring, lighting, HVAC, interior painting, a new privacy fence, and the addition of a kitchen. Escambia County Engineering also completed a new parking lot, sidewalks and drainage upgrades on the property.
Escambia County Parks and Recreation added a new playground in front of the community center, which features several slides, climbing structures, and interactive play features for all ages. Outdoor workout equipment was also installed to provide additional recreational opportunities for the community.
