Chipley, Fla. - The Florida Department of Transportation will begin a $5.5 million resurfacing project on Michigan Avenue (State Road (S.R.) 296), from Mobile Highway (U.S. 90) to North Palafox Street (U.S. 29), in Escambia County later this month.

This project also includes:
  • Sidewalk and crosswalk improvements, including Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades
  • Signalization upgrades
  • Stormwater management enhancements
  • New signing and pavement markings

During construction, drivers and pedestrians may encounter periodic lane closures and minor traffic shifts. Lane closures will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Saturday evenings. This project is anticipated to be complete in early 2026.

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
