Residents Encouraged to Monitor Potential Severe Weather April 10

Escambia County residents are encouraged to monitor potential severe weather with the enhanced risk of damaging winds, tornadoes, high surf, hail and dangerous rip currents beginning Wednesday, April 10. The National Weather Service in Mobile, Ala. projects that severe weather will begin in Escambia County mid-afternoon on Wednesday, April 10, and continue through midnight.

Winds will increase throughout the day on Wednesday, and Escambia County can expect to see wind gusts outside of severe storms of over 50 mph, and up to 80 mph during severe storms. Flash and minor river flooding are possible, with rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches expected and locally higher amounts around 6-8 inches. Additionally, life-threatening rip currents and high surf are expected beginning Tuesday, April 9, and will carry on through Thursday, April 11. The Pensacola Beach Lifeguards are flying red flags along Pensacola Beach.

Escambia County is offering sand for residents living in flood-prone areas, beginning late afternoon Tuesday, April 9. The sand is available on a first come, first served basis. Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels to one of the following locations (map):

  • Baars Field Athletic Park - 13001 Sorrento Road, Pensacola
  • Brent Athletic Park - 4711 N. W St., Pensacola
  • Don Sutton Park - 2320 Crabtree Church Road, Molino
  • Equestrian Center - 7750 Mobile Highway, Pensacola
  • Escambia County Road Department - 601 Highway 297-A, Pensacola 
  • Ferry Pass Middle School - 8355 Yancey Lane, Pensacola (sand will be on the northwest corner of school property on Parazine Street)
  • John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Park - 555 E. Nine Mile Road, Pensacola
  • Travis M. Nelson Park -  4541 County Road 4, Pensacola 

Residents can sign up for Alert Escambia emergency updates through the Emergency Management website.

Citizens can also report storm-related damages. If you receive damage to your home due to the storm, please report it to the Escambia County Citizens Damage Report.
