Escambia County is excited to announce the reopening of Perdido Key Beach Access #2, effective as of 10 a.m. Friday, March 15.
With a collaborative effort between the Escambia County Parks and Recreation, Natural Resources and Public Works Departments, along with favorable weather conditions, Beach Access #2 reopened two weeks ahead of schedule.
"This effort results in a level, semi-pervious parking surface with striped spots and curb stops," said District 1 Commissioner Jeff Bergosh. "Because we were able to remove the dilapidated and damaged structure on the property, we have added six additional parking spots, over and above what the previous configuration accommodated. Now we have outdoor showers, a paved, level parking surface, handicap-accessible, portable bathrooms that will be encased in wooden lattice frames, and six more parking spots just in time for Spring Break. Kudos to the staff at Parks and Recreation, Natural Resources, and Public Works for getting this done and making this amenity better for all the citizens."
Along with the repaving and restriping, additional parking spots, outdoor showers, and the ADA-compliant portable restroom, Escambia County has added a new ADA-compliant mobility mat, new fencing and enhanced the entryway to the beach. Parking bumpers will be added to the parking spots in the next two weeks.
