Escambia County Moves Forward with Over $100 Million in Projects in Fiscal Year 2023

Escambia County moved forward with more than $100 million in county projects in Fiscal Year 2023, with a variety of impactful projects including road resurfacing, drainage and sidewalk improvements, infill housing, a new library, and much more.

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners approved funding for the projects, which will provide numerous improvements for residents throughout Escambia County.

Some of the Escambia County projects approved in Fiscal Year 2023 (Oct. 1, 2022 - Sept. 30, 2023) include:

• Moreno Street Stormwater Pond and Sidewalk Improvements Construction - $712,801.45
• Macky Bluffs Restoration (FEMA) Construction - $937,076
• SHIP Home Construction (State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program) - $1,169,048
• Jones Creek Floodplain Restoration and Jackson Creek Floodplain Restoration - $2,950,000
• Perdido Key Multi Use Path Construction - $4,227,499.70
• Artificial Reef Construction - $1,150,225
• Hurricane Sally Repairs - Molino Community Center (FEMA) - $141,503.23
• Road Resurfacing - $12,679,475.77
• CEI Services for Casino Beach Fishing Pier Repairs - Design (FEMA) - $273,075
• CEI Services for Pensacola Bay Fishing Bridge Replacement (FEMA) - $1,532,151.50
• Infill Housing - $1,335,000
• Pensacola Beach Dune Walkover 27C Replacement - $154,792.04
• Brownsville Library Renovations - $2,095,500
• Pensacola Beach Public Dressing Room - $570,130
• Massachusetts Avenue and Erress Boulevard Sidewalks & Drainage Improvements (Mobile Highway to W Street) Construction - $5,348,809.44
• Beach Haven Stormwater and Septic to Sewer Construction - $22,059,955.76
• Front Street Drainage Repairs Construction (FEMA) - $993,312.98
• Oak Valley Bridge Replacement (FEMA) Construction- $924,253.05
• Chemstrand Road Drainage and Sidewalk Improvements Construction - $6,847,458.19
• Maple Oaks Stormwater Rehabilitation (FEMA) Construction - $1,177,691.80
• Design Services for Devine Farms Road - $457,653.29
• Gibson Road Bridge over Alligator Creek Construction $1,982,623.88

Several projects approved in 2023 will continue into 2024, including the new Brownsville Library, which is expected to be completed by late 2024. Project construction is now underway to renovate the old Masonic Lodge building near the Brownsville Community Center into a new 8,000-square-foot library and community space in the heart of Brownsville.

Repairs to the Casino Beach Fishing Pier on Pensacola Beach are also underway, with work expected to be completed by May 2024. The Board of County Commissioners recently awarded the construction contract for a total of $4,271,359.

“It has been an incredibly productive year for Escambia County, and I’m looking forward to continuing to improve the quality of life for our residents through these exciting projects and many more to come,” County Administrator Wes Moreno said. “County staff and the BCC have worked diligently to move Escambia County forward, and I am confident that this momentum will continue into 2024 as we make improvements throughout the county.”
