Escambia County Natural Resources Management is excited to announce the grand opening of the Perdido Key Demonstration Garden on Wednesday, June 8, as part of the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce World Ocean Day celebration. The event is free and will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Perdido Key Visitor/Community Center at 15500 Perdido Key Drive.
In place of a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, Natural Resources Management staff invites the public to visit the garden and learn more about native coastal landscaping and its many benefits. Staff and volunteers will also be talking about the Sea Turtle Conservation program with hands-on activities for families of all ages.
The Perdido Key Coastal Demonstration Garden was funded by the Pensacola and Perdido Bay Estuary Program’s Community Grant Program. Staff would like to thank the Escambia County Road and Parks and Recreation departments for their assistance during the project and the 30 volunteers who contributed time and effort to the garden. Volunteers included members of the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce, Visit Pensacola, Perdido Key Association and the Escambia Florida Master Gardeners.
World Ocean Day will be a day of environmentally focused games, activities, and art projects at the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Center. During World Ocean Day, the Chamber and multiple partner agencies will present information on protecting our beaches and marine habitat in conjunction with World Ocean Day.
