The community is invited to the second public meeting for the Jackson Street Master Plan on Tuesday, May 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Brownsville Community Center, located at 3200 W. De Soto St. in Pensacola. The public may also
register to attend virtually via Zoom.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for residents and businesses to review and provide input on the concepts and proposed improvements for West Jackson Street between A Street and Fairfield Drive. The goal of the project is to improve safety along West Jackson Street and make the roadway more pedestrian-friendly, while also enhancing existing neighborhoods and businesses in the area.
The planning effort is a joint project of Escambia County and the City of Pensacola, as well as their Community Redevelopment Agencies.
In addition to the public meeting, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners and the City of Pensacola Community Redevelopment Agency will hold a joint workshop on Tuesday, May 24 at 3 p.m., to
discuss conceptual options for the Reimagine Jackson Street project based on preliminary public input and data analysis. The workshop will be held at Pensacola City Hall in the Hagler-Mason Conference room, located at 222 W. Main St. The workshop agenda will be available
on the City of Pensacola website. This meeting is also open to the public.
The Jackson Street plan, dubbed
Reimagine Jackson Street, launched with a public meeting in March and a multi-lingual survey that garnered over 300 responses.
From the initial feedback, the designers worked to create a list of options and improvements for West Jackson Street. This second public meeting will be an opportunity for residents to comment on the specific proposals for the corridor. Project lead, Catherine Prince, said the community’s input during the first meeting was vital for guiding the design team’s proposed improvements and hoped to continue that dialogue at the second meeting.
“The initial community outreach for Jackson Street was very successful, with more than 300 people completing the surveys or attending events," Prince said. "Those residents and their feedback were a vital part of our design process. I’m looking forward to hearing more suggestions and responses to these options now that we have designs and renderings to share.”
