Three new traffic signals on West Cervantes Street, at the intersections of North J, North L and North R Streets, will be fully operational beginning Tuesday, May 17. These three signals have been in flash mode for the last two weeks to ensure drivers were aware of the change before they were activated.

The new signals are mounted horizontally on mast arms. Motorists with color weakness issues will need to remember the red light is on the left and the green light is on the right.

Drivers are urged to use caution when traveling through the work zone, especially at night, and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway. All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

The work is part of a $7 million construction project that is improving pedestrian safety along a 2.2-mile section of West Cervantes Street, from Dominguez Street to A Street. Other planned improvements include constructing seven lighted midblock crosswalks, ADA-compliant ramps, and a wider multi-use path. The work is estimated for completion in mid-2022.
