Beanstack: Summer 2022: Sail the Seven Seas on an Ocean of Possibilities

Preregistration Begins Monday, May 16

Tuesday, May 31-Sunday, July 31, mywfpl.beanstack.org

The Summer Reading and Summer STEAM challenge of 2022 is all about oceanography. Set sail across the seven seas on an ocean of possibilities! Complete groups of reading activities to earn prizes and digital raffle tickets. Attend community programs and STEAM events to earn additional raffle tickets. Apply your raffle tickets for a chance to win a system-wide grand-prize in your age group. Log all reading activities, program attendance, and digital raffle tickets in Beanstack by midnight on July 31 to be eligible for the grand-prize drawings! A paper copy of the challenge will be available. Preregistration for the challenge will begin on Monday, May 16.

Start your summer off right and join Reno’s Reptiles for an animal show-and-tell! Alligators, tortoises, and many other critters will be visiting your local library. All ages are welcome.

Beanstack: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Continuous – Virtual, mywfpl.beanstack.org

Enjoy reading 1,000 books with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way. Bond with your child and inspire literacy along the way. A book a day is 365 books in a year, 730 in two years and 1,095 in three years! There is more time than you think, so get started today! Every 100 books come into the library to claim a prize. Be rewarded at 1,000 books with a book and a certificate of achievement.

Mindful Journal

Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Patrons will incorporate mindfulness practices and daily journal prompts to list, describe and explore all of the many things in life that they are thankful for. Using a gratitude journal, along with mindfulness techniques, has been linked to an overall improvement in the quality of a person’s life. Not available Monday, May 30.

Creative Writing Journal

Writing can be an uphill battle, and sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Jumpstart your creative process with themed prompts and writing tips. Use these ideas to start a novel, explore a scene or write a poem. Not available Monday, May 30.

Council on Aging

Tuesday, May 3, 10:30-11:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Council on Aging of West Florida presents a thoughtful presentation on social services and opportunities available to elder adults in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. With a charge from the State of Florida to keep seniors at home, with independence and dignity for as long as possible, Council on Aging works to provide comfort and care in home, eliminating the need for long-term nursing home placement and expensive personal care. If you are aging and need help, or are a caregiver for an aging older adult, we want you to receive every service available.

Legal Services of North Florida

Tuesday, May 3, 10:30-11:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF) is one of seven legal services organizations in Florida. Our program in the 16 counties in the North Florida works hard to meet the legal needs of children, elderly, victims of abuse and those with disabilities. LSNF’s priority areas of representation include support for families; preserving the home; maintaining economic stability; safety, stability and health; and serving populations with special vulnerabilities. These translate to cases involving family law, housing, public benefits, employment, education, and health care issues. LSNF’s purpose is to provide case representation and advice to low-income persons in civil matters only. LSNF serves only the low-income and those with certain vulnerable circumstances including the elderly. LSNF never charges a fee for our services to a client. Crafternoons: CD Mosaics

Join us at Pensacola Library for a creative adventure! Crafternoons will be held the first Thursday of each month. Each month we will experiment with a new medium, explore a new theme, learn a new hobby, or construct on old favorite. Whether we're painting, crocheting, constructing faux stained glass, or fashioning unicorn dream catchers, all ages are welcome. May’s Crafternoon activity will be CD Mosaics. Computing Basics: The Internet, Email and Social Media

Repurposed Plastic Planter

Popular Literary Book Club Discussion: Malibu Rising

Join the Popular Literary Book Club as we discuss Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This is a story of one unforgettable night in the life of the Riva Family. The children of legendary singer, Mick Riva, celebrate each year with a party to beat all parties. How to Keep Your Child Safe in a Tech Savvy World

Patron Families are invited to attend an informational meeting hosted by Called 2 Rescue, a nonprofit organization that works with law enforcement and anti-trafficking organizations to search and rescue victims from exploitative situations. They believe that training is the first line of defense. They will share with parents/guardians and their children about how to protect yourself and family from predators and the methods they use to lure children from their safe environments.

Love Those Launchpads

Tuesday, May 24, 3-4 p.m. – Tryon Library

Launchpads are interactive tablets pre-loaded with apps. Every Launchpad is a new adventure.  Spend the hour trying out different launchpads and decide which one you’d like to checkout.  Launchpads range from 3-10+ in difficulty.

LEGO® Club

Monday-Friday, 4-5 p.m. – Westside Library

Build, learn and play every day! Join us at Westside Library every Monday – Friday from 4 – 5 p.m. for building with LEGOs! LEGO club is best for children ages five and up. Children under eight years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All LEGOs are provided. Not available Monday, May 30.

May the Fourth Be with You: Star Wars Day Craft

Wednesday, May 4, noon-1 p.m. – Westside Library 

Visit Westside Library and celebrate Star Wars Day with a Jedi craft. Suggested for ages 5 and up.  All materials will be provided.

Join us for some fun with board games at the Westside Library. Bring your friends and challenge them to a variety of games. 

Mini Clay Pot Painting

Tuesday, May 10, noon-1 p.m. – Westside Library 

Join us at the Westside Library and paint your own mini two-inch clay pot and saucer.  Make a selection from our seed library, add some potting soil, and enjoy the fun of gardening! The library will provide supplies until they are gone. Suggested for ages 12 and up.

Walking Club

Join in on the Walking Club fun at Westside Library this spring.  Meet in the library where a staff member will lead the group for two laps around the park and historic Legion Field.

Bocce Ball Club 

Friday, May 13, 4-5 p.m. – Westside Library 

Visit Westside Library where you can learn and play Bocce Ball outdoors. Popular across the world, this casual, entertaining bowling game originated in Italy and has been played for centuries in various forms.

Bocce Ball Team Competition 

Thursday, May 26, 4-5 p.m. – Westside Library 

Visit the Westside Library where you can compete outdoors against other teams for a family friendly competition. Bocce Ball is a simple, yet strategic, European bowling game enjoyed by players from across the world.

Beginner Chess

Tuesday, May 31, 4-5 p.m. – Westside Library

Learn the game of chess at Westside Library.  A brief explanation of basic rules and game strategy along with family friendly competition may inspire participants to become lifelong chess fans.
