March Events at West Florida Public Libraries

Beanstack: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Continuous - Virtual, mywfpl.beanstack.org

Enjoy reading 1,000 books with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way. Bond with your child and inspire literacy along the way. A book a day is 365 books in a year, 730 in two years and 1,095 in three years! There is more time than you think, so get started today! Every 100 books come into the library to claim a prize. Be rewarded at 1,000 books with a book and a certificate of achievement.

Take-home Craft Kits

Take-away craft kits and other activity bags are available at the Youth Services desk. Availability is on a first-come-first-serve basis during open hours. Kits rotate regularly.

Mindful Journal

Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Patrons will incorporate mindfulness practices and daily journal prompts to list, describe and explore all of the many things in life that they are thankful for. Using a gratitude journal, along with mindfulness techniques, has been linked to an overall improvement in the quality of a person’s life.

Creative Writing Journal

Writing can be an uphill battle, and sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Jumpstart your creative process with themed prompts and writing tips. Use these ideas to start a novel, explore a scene or write a poem.

Teen-y Tiny Art Show

Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Art is for everyone, especially tweens and teens. Express yourself with a tiny painting kit from the Pensacola Library. You can pick up a kit from the Youth Services desk from Tuesday, March 1 to Monday, March 7. Return your masterpiece to the Pensacola Library from Tuesday, March 8 to Monday, March 14. We will display your work in the lobby display case from Tuesday, March 15 to Thursday, March 31. Suggested for middle and high school youths. All materials provided while supplies last.

Council on Aging

Tuesday, March 1, 10: 30-11:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Council on Aging of West Florida presents a thoughtful presentation on social services and opportunities available to elder adults in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. With a charge from the State of Florida to keep seniors at home, with independence and dignity for as long as possible, Council on Aging works to provide comfort and care in home, eliminating the need for long-term nursing home placement and expensive personal care. If you are aging and need help, or are a caregiver for an aging older adult, we want you to receive every service available.

Legal Services of North Florida

Tuesday, March 1, 10: 30-11:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF) is one of seven legal services organizations in Florida. Our program in the 16 counties in the North Florida works hard to meet the legal needs of children, elderly, victims of abuse and those with disabilities. LSNF’s priority areas of representation include support for families; preserving the home; maintaining economic stability; safety, stability and health; and serving populations with special vulnerabilities. These translate to cases involving family law, housing, public benefits, employment, education, and health care issues. LSNF’s purpose is to provide case representation and advice to low-income persons in civil matters only. LSNF serves only the low-income and those with certain vulnerable circumstances including the elderly. LSNF never charges a fee for our services to a client. Master Gardeners present Creating a Healthy Lawn

Crafternoons: Mardi Gras Bead Art

Join us at Pensacola Library for a creative adventure! Crafternoons will be held the first Thursday of each month. Each month we will experiment with a new medium, explore a new theme, learn a new hobby, or construct on old favorite. Whether we're painting, crocheting, constructing faux stained glass, or fashioning unicorn dream catchers, all ages are welcome. March’s Crafternoon activity will be Mardi Gras bead art. Computing Basics: The Ins and Outs of Microsoft Word

Make Faux Stained Glass at the Library

Join staff at Pensacola Library for a Saturday afternoon craft session. Construct a beautiful frame of DIY-stained glass. Suggested for youth and their families, but open to everyone. All materials provided while supplies last.

Popular Literary Book Club Discussion: The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles

Join the Popular Literary Book Club as we discuss The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. The best-selling author of A Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility returns with another rich, absorbing story. As a troubled teen sets out to rebuild his life in 1950s Nebraska, his past catches up with him in the form of two friends, their rap sheets, and a dubious plan that leads them to New York City.

Adulting 101

Join us for a five-month series of Adulting 101 classes at the Pensacola Library. Classes will be hosted the fourth Thursday of every month from Jan. until May 2022. We will cover topics such as financial literacy and budgeting, college and career planning, and health care basics. Suggested for teens and young adults.

Rubber Duck Scavenger Hunt

Celebrate National Rubber Duck Day at Pensacola Library! Stop by the Youth Services department on Saturday, March 26 to find one of our 23 hidden rubber ducks. If you find a duck, bring it to the desk so we can check it off our list and know how many ducks are left. Then, the duck is yours to keep! One duck per person.

Pot of Gold St. Patrick’s Day Art

Come join us as we use the Silhouette machines to cut out lucky leprechaun pots of gold. We will be making custom stickers and paper art using these wonderful machines. Come learn and have fun making your own pot of gold.

Sew Much Fun Saturdays!

Want to learn how to sew or do you have a project you want to complete? Come to the Century Library for open sewing lab. This month’s special project is Spring Chicken tote bags. Join us as we make a tote bag out of a recycled feedbag. You are also welcome to work on your own project using the library machines.

Blooming Brownies Garden Fun!

We will be making blooming brownies. These brownies are not the kind you can eat. Instead, they can be planted to grow wonderful flowers. Once dry, you can plant them in your garden or give them away as gifts. Come join in the fun!

Earn your GED at the Molino Community Center. This is an open enrollment program so that students may enroll anytime during the semester. A current TABE test is required to enroll for the classes. AARP Tax Help at Molino Library

Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. – Molino Library

The AARP Tax Aide program offers free federal income tax filing assistance to low to moderate income taxpayers with a special emphasis on those over fifty.  All taxpayers are required to have appointments this year.  There will be no walk-ins and no waiting in line.  For more information or to make an appointment, contact the Molino Library at (850) 435-1760. Appointments will be for Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Hunter Safety Class

Get ready for the fall hunting season. Hunters need this class to get their hunting license.  This class requires completion of the Florida's free on-line hunter safety course BEFORE attending class. AARP Tax Help at Southwest Library

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides assistance to anyone free of charge with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low-to-moderate income. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code. This year, tax assistance at the Southwest Library is available by appointment only between February 1 and April 14, Monday or Wednesday only. Information packets regarding this program will be available at the Southwest Library service desk. These packets will include contact information for making your appointment. LEGO® Club

Monday-Friday, 4-5 p.m. – Westside Library

Build, learn and play every day! Join us at Westside Library every Monday – Friday from 4 – 5 p.m. for building with LEGOs! LEGO club is best for children ages five and up. Children under eight years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All LEGOs are provided.

Mystery Book Bundles

Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. – Westside Library

Check out a mystery book bundle! Each preschool bag contains three new picture books and youth and young adult bags contain two themed chapter books. All mystery book bundles may be checked out for three weeks.

Mardi Gras Mask 

Tuesday, March 1, 12-1 p.m. – Westside Library 

Visit Westside Library and celebrate Mardi Gras by making a Mardi Gras Mask. Suggested for ages 5 and up.  All materials will be provided. 

Bocce Ball Club

Visit Westside Library where you can learn and play Bocce Ball outdoors. Popular across the world, this casual, entertaining bowling game originated in Italy and has been played for centuries in various forms.     

St. Patrick’s Day Craft

Visit Westside Library and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us by making a Pot of Gold. Suggested for ages 5 and up. All materials will be provided.

Visit Westside Library to create your own drum using paper teacups. Suggested for ages 8 and up. All materials will be provided.

Walking Club

Wednesday, March 30, 4-5 p.m. – Westside Library

Join in on the Walking Club fun at Westside Library this spring.  Meet in the library where a staff member will lead the group for two laps around the park and historic Legion Field.
