Due to the potential for below-freezing temperatures in Escambia County, two local organizations will open beginning tonight through Sunday evening for those in need of shelter.
Ensley First Baptist Church, located at 50 W. Johnson Ave., will be opening their shelter for women and children. Check-in is from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Entry after 8:30 p.m. is available only if accompanied by law enforcement. The shelter will close at 7 a.m., but a daytime warming center will be available at Waterfront Rescue Mission during their normal hours of operation.
- Ensley First Baptist Church is currently seeking women volunteers who can serve as overnight staff. If interested, please call 850-476-2221.
Waterfront Rescue Mission, located at 380 W. Herman St., will be opening for men starting tonight through Sunday evening. No fee will be collected during cold weather operations. Waterfront Rescue Mission will be extending their daytime hours for their day-use facility to act as a warming center for both men and women.
