On Friday, Dec. 17, Escambia County Fire Rescue Capt. Stephen Craig Ammons was honored during his retirement ceremony after 41 years of faithful and dedicated service as a first responder. Capt. Ammons spent the last 36 years of his career with Escambia County Fire Rescue.
Stephen Craig Ammons has served the citizens of Escambia County as Fire Captain for Escambia County Fire Rescue. He began his career with Escambia County in 1985 as a paramedic with Emergency Medical Services. Capt. Ammons moved to Fire Rescue in 2000, serving as a firefighter, fire lieutenant and fire captain.
During his time with the county, Capt. Ammons collaborated with numerous local, state, and national agencies on fire suppression and training. He has worked during multiple emergency activations, including mutual aides, hurricanes, tornadoes, oil spills, ice storms, floods, the COVID-19 pandemic and many other local disasters affecting the citizens of Escambia County.
“We joined Craig and his family in celebration of a long and successful career in Public Safety today," said Escambia County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Paul Williams. "We want thank all of our special guests, other agencies, and first responders who came out to celebrate with us and wish Craig well. ECFR and Escambia County were fortunate that Craig established roots here with our community, and we wish him and his family a bountiful and healthy retirement."
Family, friends, colleagues, local elected officials, local law enforcement and fire partners from nearby communities gathered in celebration of Capt. Ammons. Escambia County Commissioner Robert Bender (D4) presented Capt. Ammons with an official proclamation, while State Representative Michelle Salzman (FL-1) presented him with a Certificate of Recognition. Commissioner Steven Barry (D5) was also in attendance.
"I'm honor today that everybody took the time to come by," said now-retired Escambia County Fire Rescue Captain Craig Ammons. "I wish everyone good luck, be safe, enjoy what you have and keep making progress to protect the citizens of Escambia County."
The Board of County Commissioners expresses its appreciation to Capt. Craig Ammons for his 41 years of a first responder, and 36 years of faithful and dedicated service to the citizens of Escambia County.
