Escambia County is pleased to recognize Kevin Brandenburg, a Fleet Maintenance Specialist in the Parks and Recreation department, as the 2021 Employee of the Year. Kevin has been with the county since June 3, 2014, and was previously recognized as Employee of the Month for April 2021. He was selected as Employee of the Year for the standards of excellence he performs in his role.

As the Fleet Maintenance Specialist, most of Kevin's time is focused on equipment maintenance. The department has a wide range of equipment and Kevin's well-rounded skill set allows him to to work on multiple components of the fleet with ease.

Kevin's recent attendance at a school playground installation on behalf of the county has allowed the Parks and Recreation department to install county playgrounds and save money in the department. He is also a leader on an in-house team repairing sports field lighting and installing multiple baseball and football scoreboards across the county. By completing small in-house repairs on various projects, Kevin continually saves the Parks and Recreation department and the county as a whole thousands of dollars, which in turn can be leveraged and used in various other locations for enhancements and upgrades.

In his free time, Kevin is a member of Lower Alabama Search and Rescue, assisting in searches and disaster relief operations. This is a passion of Kevin's and he is always quick to answer the call when this group is in need. Additionally, he has served as a volunteer fireman and donates his time each year at Five Flags Speedway's Snowball Derby and with Miracle League of Pensacola. At Miracle League, Kevin assists with their special event fundraisers and has been a constant at their annual turkey fry.

When he is not walking or volunteering, Kevin likes to attend Hot Rod and Classic Car shows. The time he enjoys the most is with his wife, Rebecca, and his son, Jason.

"It is a blessing to have someone who can work together with other departments to complete tasks," said Parks and Recreation Director Michael Rhodes. "Kevin is the example of a true team player; he is always thinking outside the box and communicating in a respectful and insightful manner. Kevin is an incredible asset to our Parks and Recreation Department, and an invaluable member on the Escambia County team."

The board presented Kevin with a proclamation honoring him as the 2021 Employee of the Year at the Dec. 2, 2021 Board of County Commissioners meeting.
