Escambia County is pleased to recognize Betty Trawick, a Customer Service Technician in the Planning and Zoning Division of the Development Services Department, as the December Employee of the Month.
Mrs. Betty Trawick started her career with the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) in 1976 as the first black receptionist ever hired. In 1986, she transferred to the Escambia County Comptroller's Office where she worked until her retirement in 2011. On Jan. 2, 2018, Betty rejoined the Escambia County BCC.
As a Customer Service Technician, Betty is the first point of contact for walk-in customers at the Development Services Department as well as all other departments in the Central Office Complex. She answers a countless number of phone calls and processes their request or transfers them to the correct department personnel.
In addition, Betty was cross-trained to assist with the clerical duties associated with the Board of Adjustment and serves as backup for the right-of-way and driveway permitting process. Upon relocation of the Veteran's Service Offices to the Central Office Complex, Betty began assisting and directing appointments for the Veteran's Services Officer. During the pandemic, Betty spent countless nights, hours and weekends helping implement the CARES Act, taking in and processing applications over the phone and in-person for citizens.
"Betty's pleasant attitude and willingness to pitch in to help wherever is needed are just two of her many outstanding qualities," says Development Services Director Horace Jones. "She is always ready, willing and able to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed, and serves with the utmost professionalism, dedication and a caring demeanor, regardless of the request at hand. Her friendly, calming nature and ability to communicate effectively, all with a dose of patience, make her a wonderful asset to the Development Services Department and the county as a whole."
The board appointed Betty with a proclamation honoring her as the December Employee of the Month at the Dec. 2, 2021 Board of County Commissioners meeting.
