December Events at West Florida Public Libraries

Beanstack: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Continuous - Virtual, mywfpl.beanstack.org

Enjoy reading 1,000 books with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way. Bond with your child and inspire literacy along the way. A book a day is 365 books in a year, 730 in two years and 1,095 in three years! There is more time than you think, so get started today! Every 100 books come into the library to claim a prize. Be rewarded at 1,000 books with a book and a certificate of achievement.

Winter “Season’s Readings” Challenge: Beanstack

Monday, Nov. 15 – Saturday, Jan. 8 - Virtual, mywfpl.beanstack.org

Join West Florida Public Libraries for our Winter Reading Challenge! This year’s theme is “Season’s Readings”. This challenge is open to all ages and kids, teens and adults are encouraged to participate. Complete our seasonally themed reading activities to collect virtual puzzle pieces. Collect all four of the puzzle pieces to complete the seasonal puzzles. For each puzzle you complete, you win a prize. Complete all four seasonal puzzles and win a completion prize. Once you have completed the four seasonally themed reading activities and received the season’s badge, you are eligible to visit the library and collect your prize. Completing each season’s puzzle also means you win raffle tickets that can be entered for a chance to win even more cool prizes. Register at mywfpl.beanstack.org or stop by your local library and pick up a paper copy of the challenge.

Take-home Craft Kits

Mindful Journal

Patrons will incorporate mindfulness practices and daily journal prompts to list, describe and explore all of the many things in life that they are thankful for. Using a gratitude journal, along with mindfulness techniques, has been linked to an overall improvement in the quality of a person’s life. Creative Writing Journal

Writing can be an uphill battle, and sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Jumpstart your creative process with themed prompts and writing tips. Take-away Cell Phone Case Loom Kit

Crafternoons: Decorative Trees

Thursday, Dec. 2, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Join us at Pensacola Library for a creative adventure! Crafternoons are held the first Thursday of each month. Each month we experiment with a new medium, explore a new theme, learn a new hobby or construct on old favorite. Whether we are painting, crocheting, constructing faux stained glass or fashioning unicorn dream catchers, all ages are welcome. December’s project will be Decorative Trees. All materials are provided by the library.

Popular Literary Book Club Discussion: The Last Thing He Told Me: A Novel by Laura Dave

Join the Popular Literary Book Club as we discuss The Last Thing He Told Me. With attention from the New York Times, Vogue and the Reese Witherspoon Book Club, this mystery/suspense novel follows Hannah, a woman whose husband leaves her an urgent note just before vanishing: Protect Her. Now with 16-year-old Bailey in tow, she must discover who her husband really was, why the FBI is looking for him and what is so important about her estranged stepdaughter.

Fall Fishing Fun in the Sun!

Come spend Saturday at Lake Stone with the Century Library!* Learn about one of the county’s great lakes, its freshwater fish and how to catch them!  All materials for fishing are available at the library for check out. This is a catch and release program.

Use your creativity to design the ugliest, gaudiest, tackiest sweater ever! All materials will be provided for you to create this wacky, wintery craft.

Young Adult Book Club

This book club is for everyone who loves young adult and teen reads. Join us the fourth Thursday of every month at the Molino Library to discuss a new book! This month we will be reading Ten Blind Dates by Ashley Elston.

Santa’s Workshop

Need a place to wrap presents where that elf on the shelf won’t find you? Come to Molino Library and use our large tables to wrap in peace. Scissors and tape are provided.

GED Instruction at Molino Library

Mondays at 6 p.m. - Molino Library

Thursdays at 6 p.m. - Molino Library

Earn your GED at the Molino Community Center. This is an open enrollment program so that students may enroll anytime during the semester. A current TABE test is required to enroll for the classes. LEGO® Club

Build, learn and play every day! Join us at Westside Library every Monday – Friday from 4 – 5 p.m. for building with LEGOs! LEGO club is best for children ages five and up. Mystery Book Bundles

Check out a mystery book bundle! Each preschool bag contains three new picture books and youth and young adult bags contain two themed chapter books. Q-tip Snowflake Ornament
