Beanstack: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten


Monday, Feb. 1 - Continuous - Virtual, mywfpl.beanstack.org

Enjoy reading 1,000 books with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way. Bond with your child and inspire literacy along the way. A book a day is 365 books in a year, 730 in two years and 1,095 in three years! There's more time than you think, so get started today! Every 100 books come into the library to claim a prize. Be rewarded at 1,000 books with a book and a certificate of achievement.

Mindful Journal

Patrons will incorporate mindfulness practices and daily journal prompts to list, describe, and explore all of the many things in life that they are thankful for.  Using a gratitude journal, along with mindfulness techniques, has been linked to an overall improvement in the quality of a person’s life. *Not available Monday, Sept. 6.

Creative Writing Journal

Writing can be an uphill battle, and sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Jumpstart your creative process with themed prompts and writing tips. Use these ideas to start a novel, explore a scene or write a poem. *Not available Monday, Sept. 6.

Popular Literary Book Club Discussion: The Sweetness of Water (Oprah’s Book Club): A Novel by Nathan Harris

Wednesday, Sept. 15, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Join the Popular Literary Book Club as we discuss Oprah’s Book Club selection, The Sweetness of Water, a historical fiction set in the Reconstruction period.  In Georgia, a cast of characters, including two Confederate soldiers, a farm family surviving tragic loss, and two emancipated brothers heading north searching for their mother, come together in this deeply moving tale of healing, love, destruction and renewal.

Garden Greenery Series: Saving Seeds 

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 6 – 6:45 p.m. - Pensacola Library

Many flowers and edible plants produce an abundance of seeds for us to save for next season’s landscape and garden.  Join Beth Bolles of the University of Florida Extension program to learn the basics of saving seeds from a variety of plants including harvesting, handling, and storage.  We will also share which seeds you can save to achieve success with this fun gardening practice. Registration for this event will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Council on Aging

The Council on Aging of West Florida presents a thoughtful presentation on social services and opportunities available to elder adults in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. With a charge from the State of Florida to keep seniors at home, with independence and dignity for as long as possible, Council on Aging works to provide comfort and care in home, eliminating the need for long-term nursing home placement and expensive personal care. How to use WFPL’s ProQuest Recent and Historical Newspapers: U.S. Southeast Collection

Participants will learn how to access and explore West Florida Public Libraries’ online digital newspaper database, including the Pensacola News Journal. Help will be available after an informal presentation to assist patrons with downloading or printing articles, headlines, etc.

Participants will learn how to design and cut vinyl stickers. Everyone will get to take home their very own vinyl sticker designed during the event. All materials for the Silhouette activity event are provided by West Florida Public Libraries free of charge.

Codeybot Chaos!

OneBlood

The Bloodmobile is back in town! Join us on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. and support the health of your community by donating with OneBlood. There will be a thank you gift for participants.

GED Instruction at Molino Library

Mondays at 6 p.m. - Molino Library

Thursdays at 6 p.m. - Molino Library

Earn your GED at the Molino Community Center. This is an open enrollment program so that students may enroll anytime during the semester. A current TABE test is required to enroll for the classes. Contact Patricia Harrison at George Stone 850-941-6200 for more. There will be no GED instruction on Monday, Sept. 6. The library will be closed in observance of Labor Day.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Hunter Safety Course

Wednesday, Sept. 15, 6 – 10 p.m. – Molino Library

All hunters born on or after June 1, 1975 and 16 years old are required to take a hunter safety class to get their hunting license. This class requires completion of the FWC’s free online hunter safety course before attending class. Be sure to bring your certificate of completion for the online course to class.  Go to myfwc.com/hunting/safety-education/ to register and take the online course.
