Female Inmate Back in Custody after Stealing an Animal Control Truck

At 10:15 a.m. today a female inmate, Candace Lane Garcia, on work release stole an animal control vehicle at the Escambia County Animal Shelter located at 200 W. Fairfield Drive in Pensacola. An Animal Welfare employee was struck by the vehicle and is currently being assessed. The stolen vehicle crashed in the intersection of Brent Lane and Davis Highway involving four other vehicles. One person was transported to a local area hospital. The Pensacola Police Department and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office took the inmate back into custody after a pursuit. The inmate will be medically assessed. The dog that was in the animal control vehicle is ok and is being returned to the shelter. This is an ongoing investigation. Her initial confinement charges were fraud and resisting an officer.
