Ribbon-Cutting for Olive Road to be Postponed

Published Apr 13, 2021
Due to heavy rain in the forecast, this event will be postponed. Another announcement will be distributed with the new date.

The media and the public are invited on Wednesday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Olive Road at the parking lot near the retention pond located at 7965 Kipling St. COVID-19 precautions are being taken so please RSVP at https://bit.ly/3wxKEqX by Monday, April 12. The county plans to stream the event on Facebook.

Speakers will include:
Chairman and District 4 Escambia County Commissioner Robert Bender
City of Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson
(One or more Escambia County Board of County Commissioners may be in attendance)

Improvements include:

  • The roadway is an upgrade from a rural two-lane roadway to an urban three-lane roadway.
  • The realignment and signalization of the Johnson Avenue at Harbour Square Drive intersection was a major safety upgrade.
  • Drainage improvements, including retention ponds, will reduce current flooding occurrences and allow for future drainage project connections. The Ferry Pass community will benefit from the fifth drainage project now that the drainage on Olive Road has been upgraded (Ferry Pass Zone 5, Boyd Avenue from Raines Street to East Olive Road drainage tie-in). This project will pick back up in design very soon.
  • Sidewalk installation with handrails provides increased pedestrian safety.
  • There are ADA compliant curb ramps and other accessibility improvements.
  • New asphalt and striping increases vehicle safety, with increased visibility and provides for bicycle lanes.
  • The traffic signals at 9th Avenue and Johnson Avenue at Olive Road have been integrated into the Traffic Signal Operation Center (TSOC) which will improve traffic monitoring and safety.
  • The parking lot was recently finished in February 2021 for people who want to use the walking track around the retention pond.
