Escambia County Announces Website Home Page Refresh

Published Feb 4, 2021
Escambia County is pleased to announce the myescambia.com website will go live with a new home page look and feel the morning of Monday, Feb. 8. The site is expected to be down between 6 and 7:30 a.m. while the switch occurs. The same functionality will exist on the home page; however, the information will be graphically arranged in a way to make content easier to find.

"I am extremely proud of our in-house staff within the Communication and Public Information Office and Information Technology Departments for refreshing our website," said Escambia County Administrator Janice Gilley. "The goal is to create a more user-friendly experience that is easier to navigate. The website home page received over 4.5 million views last year so you can see that it is used frequently to find information. Transparency and excellent customer service are very important in government, and this website refresh is to help improve the user interface for Escambia County residents, businesses and visitors."

The main features of the new home page include:
  • The top bar includes icons that link to the county's social media channels. The search bar and menu are on the upper right side. The desktop version also includes links to jobs and contact information. The main menu will be a "hamburger icon" that is collapsed on the upper right side to take up less room. The menu includes links to new landing pages for doing business, resident services, your government (including the Sunshine Center), visiting Escambia County, the employee portal and contact information.
  • Next, the red emergency messaging bar is currently being used for COVID-19 information. This bar can be closed and will only be used for calling attention to important emergency messaging.
  • The slider is similar to the old site that calls out important news in a visually appealing way and the user can click on the slider to be taken to more information.
  • The blue box includes icons to frequently visited pages including the adopted budget, county ordinances, county projects, environmental code enforcement, flood info, inmate lookup, jobs, maps, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, parks, Pensacola Beach, permits/contractors and road conditions.
  • The buttons underneath the blue box take users to MyGovernment Online to submit public records requests and service requests.
  • The county news center section includes the most recent news releases and icons to link to watch ECTV online, view all news, subscribe to news and the media center.
  • The upcoming events calendar is now on the bottom left instead of the bottom center on the desktop version.
  • The next sections link to beach conditions, emergency management information, updates and alerts on BeReady Escambia and the featured pet through animal services.
  • The last section of the home page is the footer that includes the county logo, icons to social media channels, a list of more social media channels, links to accessibility, contact us, site map, website feedback, the employee portal, media center, public records request, service requests and jobs. The mission statement is included as well as information about emails being public records and a copyright statement.
The website refresh was accomplished inhouse by staff in the Communications and Public Information Office and Information Technology. The site will continue to be housed on the Sitefinity platform. The county underwent a comprehensive website redesign in 2016. Most of the content has stayed the same with this refresh, and the site will continue to be updated page by page. The website continues to be mobile-friendly and the county strives for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. Click here to see a sample of the mobile version.
