County Welcomes New Associate Medical Examiner and Forensic Pathologist

Published Nov 30, 2020

The District 1 medical examiner's office is pleased to welcome a third full-time doctor, Dr. Ami Murphy.

"I'd like to welcome Dr. Murphy to the region," said County Administrator Janice Gilley. "It is wonderful to learn that Dr. Deanna Oleske is fully staffing the District 1 Medical Examiner's Office. Dr. Oleske is moving quickly to bring together a team that will provide essential services to our community, and protect the integrity of forensic investigations by having stability in the office for our law enforcement to work alongside."

Dr. Murphy most recently served as a deputy medical examiner and education coordinator at the Galveston County medical examiner's office and a clinical assistant professor for the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

"Northwest Florida is beautiful; I'm looking forward to settling here and establishing roots," Dr. Murphy said. "The medical examiner's office is in an exciting state of development, and I'm eager to work with the other doctors and staff to support our community."

Murphy attended medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a forensic pathology fellowship with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences in Houston, Texas. She holds a master of public health degree from Florida State University. Murphy is board-certified in both anatomic pathology and forensic pathology. She also has expertise and real world experience with mass disaster response, including Hurricane Harvey and the Atlas Air crash response.

Murphy will begin work as the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner on Jan. 21, 2021.
