Weather Update from Escambia County Emergency Management

Published Aug 23, 2020
Escambia County Emergency Management continues to monitor the weather and has been on calls with the State of Florida Emergency Operations Center and the National Weather Service. If Hurricane Marco and Tropical Storm Laura stay on their current paths toward Louisiana, Escambia County expects minor coastal flooding with a high risk of rip currents and high surf. There could be some beach erosion throughout the week. Wind speeds are not expected to warrant bridge closures.

“We have high confidence in the track moving toward Louisiana, but we are asking residents to remain aware and vigilant,” Emergency Manager Eric Gilmore said. “Please take this time to sign up for alerts on bereadyescambia.com and follow Escambia County Emergency Management on Twitter and Facebook to stay apprised on the latest conditions.”

Additionally, ECAT beach trolley service is suspended beginning August 23 and is expected to resume Thursday, August 27.

As a reminder, residents are encouraged to prepare their disaster kits now, which should include seven days of food and water supplies for after the storm arrives. Residents are also encouraged to fuel all vehicles and generators, and prepare all medications needed by family and pets. Individuals should also consider having at least two emergency supply kits, one full kit at home and smaller portable kits in their workplace, vehicle or other places they spend time. Remember, this year's disaster kit might need to look a little different if you're planning to go to a shelter—make sure to include face coverings, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.
