Escambia County Removes Derelict Vessel From Pensacola Bay

Published May 21, 2020

Escambia County Marine Resources Division and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission removed Bay Tiger, a 39-foot sunken shrimp boat from Pensacola Bay on Thursday, May 7.

A small amount of debris remains on the bottom of the bay floor and will be removed through diving operations. All boats are advised to avoid the area until the removal is complete.

"We are very appreciative of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for their assistance with this project and their partnership in helping make this removal happen," Captain Robert Turpin said. "We're happy to see the vessel successfully removed and the waterway restored to a safer state for our citizens."

The cost of the boat removal was funded through an FWC derelict vessel removal grant in the amount of $49,000.
