Escambia County Fire Rescue has placed two additional red bulbs on the “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety wreath, bringing the total to four structure fires so far in December.
The third fire this month occurred in the 800 block of Nantes Way on Friday, Dec. 6 at 8:26 p.m. Apparently, an electrical fire in the wall spread to the attic. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
The fourth fire occurred in the 4000 block of Mobile Highway at 5:17 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Upon arrival, ECFR units saw a single story private dwelling on fire. Units searched aggressively for occupants, despite looking uninhabited. The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Some ECFR units had been awake for 24 hours, having already responded to numerous incidents, including the shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
If your home does not have a working smoke detector, please call Escambia County Fire Rescue at 850-595-HERO (4376) or 850-436-5200 for city of Pensacola residents.
The “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety campaign is a collaborative initiative with the city of Pensacola to promote fire safety during the month of December. During the month-long campaign, five-foot wreaths are on display at 18 county fire stations and five city fire stations, with wreaths also placed outside Escambia County's Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building downtown, the Escambia County Public Safety Building, Pensacola City Hall and Cordova Mall near the food court entrance. Each time firefighters respond to a residential fire with damage, a green light bulb will be replaced with a red one to remind citizens of the dangers posed by fires in residential home.
