Escambia County Area Transit will join with other public transportation agencies nationwide in celebrating Get on Board Day Thursday, April 25, a day of raising awareness and support for public transportation among riders, non-riders, elected officials and stakeholders. On this day, ECAT urges commuters to leave their cars at home and instead use public transit to get where they need to go.
Public transportation transforms communities and the lives of the people living in them by spurring economic development, promoting sustainable lifestyles and providing a higher quality of life. Every segment of American society — individuals, families, communities and businesses — benefits from public transportation.
Get on Board Day replaces Dump the Pump Day, but continues the tradition of highlighting economic, environmental and health benefits of using public transportation. Participating in Get on Board Day is one way transportation agencies can encourage commuters to try alternative modes of transportation, develop healthier routines and cut the cost of commuting.
Public transportation helps to make a community economically prosperous and competitive. Every dollar invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.
