New Beach Parking Opens in Time for Spring Break

Published Mar 1, 2019

Escambia County has opened two new Pensacola Beach parking lot expansion projects, one located at the old Visitor Information Center near the Sandshaker and the other at Casino Beach west of the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier. The combined projects add 112 new car and 14 new motorcycle parking spots to the Pensacola Beach commercial core area in highly desirable park and walk locales. The parking areas are now open, but the Casino Beach Project will have turtle friendly lighting installed in March, along with enhanced landscaping and irrigation.

The Old Visitor Information Center Parking Lot Expansion Project, with entrances on Pensacola Beach Boulevard and Fort Pickens Road, provides 33 new car parking and 14 motorcycle only parking stalls. The project also included improved lot access, with an extended left turn lane into the Circle K/Flounder's parking lots and an extended Pensacola Boulevard right turn lane onto Ft. Pickens Road. The project was completed with approximately $100,000 in Local Option Sales Tax funding.

The Casino Beach Parking Lot Expansion Project created an additional 45 regular and 35 official use only parking stalls for law enforcement, lifeguard and other official vehicles. Located to the west of the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier, county staff and other officials will now utilize this area, freeing up space closer to Casino Beach amenities. The project also includes new access into and out of the parking lot from Fort Pickens Road in addition to access to the main Casino Beach parking area. This project was completed with approximately $1 million in Local Option Sales Tax funding.
