Book events for youth
Read with a Dog!
Come to Pensacola Library to practice reading to a dog! Kids can bring their own book or borrow one from us and read to Tanner the dog. There will be 15 minute slots available to read to Tanner from 4- 6 p.m. Slots are first come, first served. Please call 436-5038 to reserve your slot.
Pet Partners: Read With Me™
School-aged children are invited to register for a 15-minute session to pick a book and practice reading with a furry friend. Dogs and handlers are coordinated through Pet Partners and Cherry Point Dog Training Inc. Registration is requested.
Hooked on Books – Parent/Child Book Group
Want to connect with your child? Read together! Hooked on Books book group for children grades 3-5 and their parent(s). The book will be decided on during the November meeting.

Hour of Code™ with STEAM
Come learn to code with a fun introductory Hour of Code session. No prior coding experience is needed.
LEGO® at the Library – Molino Branch Library
Come build cool stuff with LEGO® bricks. The library will provide the LEGO® bricks, you just need to bring your imagination. Duplo® bricks will be available for the little ones.
LEGO® Boost Robotics and Coding Club at Tryon Branch Library
Come have fun building a LEGO® Boost robot and then learn to code it. We will explore the many builds possible with the LEGO® Boost. We will then take our building even further by answering challenges which will test your creativity. The library will provide all supplies needed. Robotics and Coding Club will run through the end of December.
Open STEAM Lab – Pensacola Library
Would you like to explore some of the robots and other technology tools that West Florida Public Libraries owns? Would you like to become trained to use the machines in the Technology Lab? Would you like to learn to build your own website using Wix or WordPress or learn how to write HTML code? We can help you get started. Drop into the STEAM Lab during our open hours and staff will assist you in getting started with robotics, virtual reality, the Silhouette machines, and other technology.
LEGO® Night – Pensacola Library
Visit the craft room to create with LEGO®. There will be building challenges and open play. Best enjoyed by ages 2 and up; parent or caregiver must be present.
Quilt, Stitch and Sew Open Session – Pensacola Library
Come learn to quilt, stitch or sew. Want to learn to crochet? Want to brush up on your sewing skills? Want to spend time together with like-minded people working on your craft project? The library has sewing machines and other tools you can use to produce your creations. The program is from 1-3 p.m.
Chess Club
We will help you learn how to play one of the oldest games in the world. Whether you are a brand-new beginner or a master chess player, this is a chance to learn new skills, practice your moves and improve your game in a friendly environment. All playing levels are welcome, including beginners. The library will provide all the chess boards and pieces.
Robotics and Coding Club at Tryon Branch Library
Come explore robotics and coding with the variety of robots that West Florida Public Libraries has to offer. You will learn coding principles and how to program robots to help you solve the session’s challenge. The library will provide all equipment, just bring your enthusiasm and curiosity. Robotics and Coding Club will run through December.
Minecraft
Come get your build on and play Minecraft as hosted by the West Florida Public Libraries. Beginners are welcome. We will provide laptops and iPads.
Winter Shiver Shakers – Family STEAM Night
Families will make a "Winter Shiver Shaker" that includes a winter scene and beautiful shimmery "snow." Presented for families with children ages 4-17. All materials will be provided.
Scratch Gaming Coding Club
Come learn to create games using Scratch, a kid-friendly programming language. Coding Club will run through the end of December.
Let’s Make Art! – Family STEAM Night at Pensacola Library
Let’s put the A in STEAM and make some art! Come try your hand at acrylic paint pouring during Family STEAM Night
Crafts
Westside Loopy Loomers – Westside Branch Library
Learn to loom knit hats, scarves, lap blankets and other items as we give back to the community. Yarn and looms are provided. All ages are welcome.
Lotion and Potions
Families and individuals will create soothing bath products, such as sugar scrub and bath soak, to use for themselves or to give as a gift. All ages welcome. Pretty packaging and all other materials will be provided.
Dream Jars
The story of the "Dream Jar" will be presented for children ages 2-12, along with their parents. Children will be able to create their own "Dream Jar" to scare away bad dreams. All materials will be provided.
Holiday Ornaments
Bring your holiday spirit and artistic flair. Families and individuals will create original holiday ornaments to celebrate the season. All ages are welcome. All materials will be provided.
Passport to the World
Learn about different cultures and make crafts. Get a new stamp for your “passport” each time you attend. Monday, Dec. 3 we will learn about South Korea and on Monday, Dec. 17 we will learn about Mexico.
Teen
Teen Tuesday: Virtual Reality, Xbox One X, Board Games and More! – Pensacola Library
Teens, join us in the STEAM Lab for access to video games such as Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart, board games, card games and more tech. Bring your friends or come prepared to make new ones. Tuesdays from 4-5:30 p.m.
Movies
Tryon Tuesday Movie Night for the Family – Polar Express
We’re showing classic movies for the whole family once a month with popcorn. This month’s film is Polar Express, release date 2004, rated G, with a running time of 100 minutes.
Teens: School’s Out, Nothing to Do – The Nightmare Before Christmas
Hang out at the library and enjoy some popcorn and a movie. Teens and children with their adults are invited to The Nightmare Before Christmas, release date 1993, rated PG, with a running time of 76 minutes.
Kids: School’s Out, Nothing to Do – Oliver and Company
Hang out at the library and enjoy some popcorn and a movie. The whole family is invited to Oliver and Company, release date 1988, rated G, with a running time of 74 minutes.
Bricks and Flicks: Frozen – Sing Along Edition
Join us in watching Frozen: Sing Along Edition (2014). Come munch popcorn and enjoy this animated action adventure movie. In our second meeting room, we will have LEGO® Frozen® sets for you to build as you watch the movie.

Santa Visits the Library!
Santa is coming to West Florida Public Libraries to read a story and hear all your Christmas wishes just in time for the holidays!
Christmas – Closed
West Florida Public Libraries will close in observance of the holiday. All branches will return to regular hours on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

GED Classes – Molino Branch Library
Earn your GED at the Molino Community Center. Classes are held each Monday and Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Molino Community Center. Regular Meeting of the West Florida Genealogical Society
Come meet the members of the West Florida Genealogical Society. You don’t have to be a member to attend, and they’ll be glad to help you learn more about researching your family history.
