Bookish Happenings
Southwest Branch Library Book Club
Friendly literary conversation of “Educated” by Tara Westover on Thursday, Nov. 8. Friendly literary conversation of “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Graphic Novel Group
Join Pop Comics owner Harley Orr and Pensacola Library staff in a discussion of a graphic novel decided on during the Octobers meeting. The group meets monthly to discuss graphic novels.
Popular Literary Book Club
Friendly literary conversation of “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones.
Molino Book Club
Join Join us as we read “The Life and Times of Persimmon Wilson” by Nancy Peacock. For fans of “Cold Mountain” and “The Invention of Wings” comes the epic journey of a slave turned Comanche warrior who travels from the brutality of a New Orleans sugar cane plantation to the indomitable frontier of an untamed Texas, searching not only for the woman he loves but also for his own identity.
Book events for youth
Pet Partners: Read With Me™
School-aged children are invited to register for a 15-minute session to pick a book and practice reading with a furry friend. Dogs and handlers are coordinated through Pet Partners and Cherry Point Dog Training, Inc. Preregistration is requested.
Hooked on Books – Parent/Child Book Group
Want to connect with your child? Read together! Hooked on Books book group for children grades 3-5 and their parent(s). The book will be decided on during the October meeting.
STEAM
Quilt, Stitch and Sew Open Session – Pensacola Library
Come learn to quilt, stitch or sew. Want to learn to crochet? Want to brush up on your sewing skills? Want to spend time together with like-minded people working on your craft project? The library has sewing machines and other tools you can use to produce your creations.
Robots with STEAM at WFPL
Robots! STEAM staff members will bring robots to the library branches for you to learn and play. Come join in the fun as you explore what these robots can do. Each session begins with an introduction to coding principles and will include a challenge for you to work through with your robot.
Chess Club
We will help you learn how to play one of the oldest games in the world. Whether you are a brand-new beginner or a master chess player, this is a chance to learn new skills, practice your moves and improve your game in a friendly environment. All playing levels are welcome, including beginners. The library will provide all the chess boards and pieces.
LEGO® at the Library
Come build cool stuff with LEGO® bricks. The library will provide the LEGO® bricks, you just need to bring your imagination. Duplo® bricks will be available for the little ones.
LEGO® Boost Robotics and Coding Club at Tryon Branch Library
Come have fun building a LEGO® Boost robot and then learn to code it. We will explore the many builds possible with the LEGO® Boost. We will then take our building even further by answering challenges which will test your creativity. The library will provide all supplies needed. Robotics and Coding Club will run through the end of December.
Open STEAM Lab – Pensacola Library
Would you like to explore some of the robots and other technology tools that West Florida Public Libraries owns? Would you like to become trained to use the machines in the Technology Lab? Would you like to learn to build your own website using Wix or WordPress or learn how to write HTML code? We can help you get started. Drop into the STEAM Lab during our open hours and staff will assist you in getting started with robotics, virtual reality, the Silhouette machines, and other technology.
LEGO® Night
Visit the craft room to create with LEGO®. There will be building challenges and open play. Best enjoyed by ages 2 and up; parent or caregiver must be present.
Green Screen Class
Come learn how to digitally swap out backgrounds in video and images, just like meteorologists do on TV. We’ll be using green screen technology to put still and video images together in new and different ways.
YouTube Class
Come learn how to create and manage a YouTube Channel. We will cover everything from building a basic channel to managing a large-scale channel with playlists. The class will cover basic analytics, tagging, and end screen cards and prompts of your videos. Basic computer skills and use a prerequisite. Computers available on site but feel free to bring your laptop.
Let’s Make Art! – Family STEAM Night at Pensacola Library
Let’s put the A in STEAM and make some art! Transform an old shirt into wearable art! Bring your own shirt or other small fabric item for the program.
Robotics and Coding Club at Tryon Branch Library
Come explore robotics and coding with the variety of robots that the West Florida Public Libraries has to offer. You will learn coding principles and how to program robots to help you solve the session’s challenge. The library will provide all equipment, just bring your enthusiasm and curiosity. Robotics and Coding Club will run through December.
Minecraft
Come get your build on and play Minecraft as hosted by the West Florida Public Libraries. Beginners are welcome. We will provide laptops and iPads.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
We will celebrate the release of the second movie in this series with related games, a green screen photo op, crafts, and treats. Come dressed as your favorite character if you wish. All materials will be provided.
Website Coding Workshop – Pensacola Library
Would you like to learn to build your own website? We can help you get started with website builders such as Wix and WordPress. Do you want to learn more of the actual HTML code used in building a website? We can help you get started with that as well. Come learn the basics of HTML coding in this class. No prior coding experience is required.
Scratch Gaming Coding Club
Come learn to create games using Scratch, a kid-friendly programming language. Coding Club will run through the end of December.
Stop Motion Animation Workshop
We've got the tools, you've got the talent, so come make a stop-motion animated video. We'll have recording equipment and LEGO bricks available for you to use.
Digitization Day at the Pensacola Library
When you've only got one copy of an important family document or photo, your family history becomes vulnerable to damage. Library staff can help you make digital copies of your family records and photos. Each patron will receive a half-hour help session and a flash drive containing the digital files they made.
Virtual Reality Bright Lights Sparkle Party – Family STEAM Night
Let’s make glow-in-the-dark volcanoes and fly light-up hand drones while enjoying some techno music. Come mix your own beats using virtual reality and other shiny tech.

Westside Loopy Loomers – Westside Branch Library
Learn to loom knit hats, scarves, lap blankets and other items as we give back to the community. Yarn and looms are provided. All ages are welcome.
Passport Around the World – Pensacola Library
Learn about different cultures and make crafts. Get a new stamp for your “passport” each time you attend. On Monday, Nov. 5, we will learn about England and on Monday, Nov. 19, we will learn about Sweden.

Virtual Reality, Xbox One X, Board Games and More!
Teens, join us in the STEAM Lab for access to video games such as Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart, board games, card games and more tech. Bring your friends or come prepared to make new ones. Tuesdays from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

We’re showing classic movies for the whole family once a month with popcorn. This month’s film is Toy Story, rated G, with a running time of 81 minutes.

Thanksgiving Coloring Contest
Monday, Nov. 5 through Saturday, Nov. 17, all day – Molino Branch Library
Children up to age 12 can pick up their coloring sheet and entry form at the Molino Branch starting Monday, November 5. Color the lively Thanksgiving turkey and return him to the Molino Branch by Saturday, November 17, for a chance to win a prize. Winners will be announced on Monday, November 19.
Veterans Day – Closed
West Florida Public Libraries will close in observance of Veterans Day. All branches will return to regular hours on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
NaNoWriMo – Pensacola Library
November is National Novel Writing Month! When you have lots of story ideas, it can be hard to stick with just one. So why try? Come learn how to create digital Choose Your Own Adventure stories, and give your tale as many different endings as you like! Earn your GED at the Molino Community Center. Classes are held each Monday and Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Molino Community Center. Hampstead Stage presents: A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is a story that is both timeless and universal. It is the delightful tale of the miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, and his clerk, Bob Cratchit. Through visits from the spirits of the season, Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas. In this charming tale, we hope to educate students about the class system of Victorian England and encourage them to help others that are less fortunate.
