In the wake of Hurricane Michael, Escambia County is assisting areas to the east that have been impacted by the storm.
Strike teams from Escambia County Public Safety are embedded in Bay County, Florida to cover emergency responses and mitigate hazards in the path of Hurricane Michael's destruction. The strike teams will essentially be providing a stand-up public safety system since the local area was so decimated.
Teams from the county will be accepting and completing mission assignments as they work toward restoring normalcy by establishing a command structure with Emergency Management, protecting further property loss and treating the sick and injured.
Gadsden County 911 calls are also being rerouted to Escambia County Emergency Communications since their system is down.
Escambia County Public Safety crews left for Bay County Thursday morning to provide mutual aid, sending two ambulance crews, two Escambia County Fire Rescue engine companies (one volunteer, one career) with one Zodiac, in addition to helping to staff a incident management team.
Thursday, ambulance crews that were deployed to Bay County used the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center as a rest area after transporting 23 patients from Bay County to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Two ambulances from Escambia County brought patients back, along with nine ambulances from other areas. The crews headed back to Bay County after resting up.
