It's the perfect time of the year to adopt a canine friend from the Escambia County Animal Shelter.
In celebration of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, the Escambia County Animal Shelter is offering a special reduced adoption fee of $50 for all dogs and puppies and $20 for all cats and kittens during the month of October. Adoption fees include altering of the animal (spay or neutering services), microchip, heart worm test, and the initial vaccinations, including rabies vaccinations. Escambia County residents will be required to purchase a license at the time of adoption. This is an additional $11 over the adoption fees and is paid separately.
While in the south it typically does not get cold enough to curb all breeding habits, each October animal shelters and rescue centers across the country are flooded with homeless puppies because dogs in the area have not been spayed or neutered. In just seven years, one unspayed female dog and her offspring can produce 97,000 puppies. On a national scale, the ASPCA reports that
3.3 million dogs are admitted to shelters each year.
Help celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Dog month by visiting the Escambia County Animal Shelter and taking home a fur-ever friend!
