West Florida Public Libraries Receives $1,000 Donation

Published Sep 6, 2018

Jazz Pensacola donated $1,000 to West Florida Public Libraries for new materials for the Jazz Room such as jazz books, CDs, and DVDs.

The Friends of West Florida Public Libraries matched the $1,000 donation as part of their recent $25,000 donation.

The Jazz Room is located in Pensacola Library and houses a curated selection of approximately 1,200 books, CDs and movies about the history, performance and culture of jazz in its many forms. Other special features of the room include a listening station where patrons can sample a variety of jazz styles, music books with play-along CDs and jazz-related artwork donated by library users.

The completion of the Jazz Room was the final step in the 2011-2013 renovation and expansion of Pensacola Library and is the culmination of a long-standing partnership between Jazz Pensacola and West Florida Public Libraries.

Jazz Society of Pensacola was founded in 1983. Incorporated as the Jazz Society of Pensacola, Jazz Pensacola is a nonprofit organization of musicians, teachers, students and listeners working together for the purpose of advancing jazz music in Pensacola and the surrounding area. Although other libraries have jazz collections, we are the only known public library in the United States to have a dedicated room to these materials.
