The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Escambia County until 7 p.m. today. According to NWS, radar indicated thunderstorms will produce heavy rain across the warned area throughout the day. Up to 10 inches of rain has already fallen between Tuesday and today, and flash flood conditions are expected to continue. Some areas may see a two-day total of over 15 inches of rainfall.
Road conditions may both worsen and clear between the bands of rainfall as the water has time to absorb, so please exercise caution at all times. In addition, please check the following resources online resources for road closures before you drive and plan for extra time to make your destination:
- City of Pensacola road closures can be viewed here.
- Travelers can access Florida's 511 service from cell phones, landlines and online at www.FL511.com.
If you have an impassable road or bridge that is not listed on our site, please contact the Escambia County Roads Division from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 850-494-5860 or 850-937-2100 after hours. If a road hazard is an immediate threat to public safety, please call 911.
Escambia County Emergency Management reminds residents to "turn around, don't drown" when approaching areas with standing water. Do not drive through flooded areas. During a flood, more people drown in their cars than anywhere else. Do not drive around barricades, as there may not be a road or a bridge where one used to be.
