Science Hour: Snakes

  • Thursday, Sept. 13, 6-7 p.m. at Escambia County Central Office Complex, 3363 West Park Place, Pensacola 

Snakes: most people either love them or hate them. While many people don’t like snakes, they do appreciate the role they serve in our community. Calls to our office often include inquiries such as “How do you know if they are venomous?” and “How can I keep them off of my porch and out of my garage?” This presentation will discuss the role snakes play in our environment and will tackle those frequently asked snake questions.

Master Naturalist

  • Every other Tuesday beginning Tuesday, Sept. 18 through Tuesday, Oct. 30, at alternating locations 3740 Stefani Road, Cantonment and 6263 Dogwood Drive, Milton

Florida Master Naturalist Program students will increase their knowledge of Florida's natural systems, of the plants and animals that depend upon those systems, and of the role of humankind in shaping our past, determining our future, and being stewards of the land. Escambia County Equine Field Day

  • Saturday, Sept. 8, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the 4-H Livestock Facility, 5701 Highway 99, Molino

The Escambia County Equine Field Day is a hands-on learning opportunity for horse owners and enthusiasts in the Western Panhandle of Florida. Participants will be educated in the areas of equine vaccinations, hoof and leg care, nutrition, pasture weed control, exercise physiology, and other relevant topics. Industry professionals, extension faculty and a local veterinarian will lead interactive workshops to engage the audience in current topics related to the Florida equine industry.   • Friday, Sept. 14, 10:30-11 a.m., 900 N. “F” St., Pensacola
  • Monday, Sept. 17, 10:30-11 a.m., 1700 N. “L” St., Pensacola

Salsa, Salsa, Salsa

  • Saturday, Sept. 8, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Molino Public Library, 6450 A Highway 95A, Molino

Participants will get updates on canning salsa, watch a salsa making demonstration, taste fresh salsa, and dance a little salsa.

Simply Delicious Cooking

  • Tuesday, Sept. 18, 6- 8 p.m., 3730 Stefani Road, Cantonment
  • Thursday, Sept. 20, 6- 8 p.m., 3730 Stefani Road, Cantonment

Learn the keys to quick, easy, economical cooking. Hands-on activities, tastings and recipes. Classes are $15 per day. For more information, please call 850-475-5230.
