Graphic Novel Group

WFPL Author Spotlight: D. Kay Mundine

  • Saturday, Sept. 8, 10:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

D. Kay Mundine was raised in Northwest Florida. She graduated from Pensacola High School and holds a B.A. degree in Social Work from San Diego State University. Through numerous writing projects throughout her vast academic history, she has developed a knack for the written word in addition to being creatively inclined.

Pet Partners: Read With Me™

  • Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 a.m. – Tryon Branch Library

School-aged children are invited to register for a 15-minute session to pick a book and practice reading with a furry friend. Dogs and handlers are coordinated through Pet Partners and Cherry Point Dog Training Inc. Registration is requested.

Robots! STEAM staff members will bring robots to the library branches for you to learn and play. Come join in the fun as you explore what these robots can do. Each session begins with an introduction to coding principles and will include a challenge for you to work through with your robot.

When you've only got one copy of an important family document or photo, your family history becomes vulnerable to damage. Library staff can help you make digital copies of your family records and photos. Each patron will receive a half-hour help session and a flash drive containing the digital files they made. Reservations are available by phone at 850-435-5067. Drop-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chess Class – Pensacola Library

We will help you learn how to play one of the oldest games in the world. Whether you are a brand-new beginner or a master chess player, this is a chance to learn new skills, practice your moves and improve your game in a friendly environment. All playing levels are welcome, including beginners. The library will provide all the chess boards and pieces.

Family Friendly Improv Class – Pensacola Library

Come learn basic improv techniques and games like those in the comedy show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Improv is storytelling with a script. All ages welcome, but parents must accompany younger children.

Youth age 6 and up are invited to come make things, sell them for play money and learn about financial literacy. Money plays an important part in every person’s life and learning how to make and manage it can be fun for almost anyone.

Green Screen Class – Pensacola Library

  • Wednesday, Sept. 5, 10:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 12, 6 p.m. 

Come learn how to digitally swap out backgrounds in video and images, just like meteorologists do on TV. We’ll be using green screen technology to put still and video images together in new and different ways.

Quilting Class – Pensacola Library

Come learn to quilt even if you have never sewn before. We will teach you the basics of sewing and quilting to get you started on making a comfy quilt of your own. You may bring fabric of your own to the class or you may choose from a supply of fabric the library has available.

Scratch Gaming Coding Club – Pensacola Library

Come learn to create games using Scratch, a kid-friendly programming language. Coding Club will run through the end of December.

LEGO® Boost Robotics and Coding Club at Tryon Branch Library

  • Saturday, Sept. 8, 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 22, 2 p.m.

Come have fun building a LEGO® Boost robot and then learn to code it. We will explore the many builds possible with the LEGO® Boost. We will then take our building even further by answering challenges which will test your creativity. The library will provide all supplies needed. Robotics and Coding Club will run through the end of December.

Website Coding Workshop – Pensacola Library

Would you like to learn to build your own website? We can help you get started with website builders such as Wix and WordPress. Do you want to learn more of the actual HTML code used in building a website? We can help you get started with that as well. Come learn the basics of HTML coding in this class. No prior coding experience is required. 

Unicorn Sparkle Party

  • Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m. – Southwest Branch Library
  • Saturday, Sept. 22, 2 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Children are invited to attend a party featuring games, story, film, craft, photo-op, treats and giveaways about the wonderful unicorn. Release your inner magic and join us to celebrate. Dress up if you wish.  All materials will be provided. Suggested for ages 3-10 years old.

Let’s Make Art! – Family STEAM Night at Pensacola Library

  • Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m.

Let’s put the A in STEAM and make some art! Come try your hand at acrylic paint pouring techniques during Family STEAM Night.

Robotics and Coding Club at Tryon Branch Library for Homeschoolers

  • Friday, Sept. 14, 11 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m.

Come explore robotics and coding with the variety of robots that the West Florida Public Libraries has to offer. You will learn coding principles and how to program robots to help you solve the session’s challenge. The library will provide all equipment, just bring your enthusiasm and curiosity. Robotics and Coding Club will run through December.

Buttons for your Backpack

  • Saturday, Sept. 15, 10:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

As another school year begins, let’s make sure you have plenty of backpack bling, we mean buttons! Join us for button making. Suggested for children 6 years old to teens.

Minecraft at Molino Branch Library

  • Saturday, Sept. 15, 10:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 29, 10:30 a.m.

Come get your build on and play Minecraft, hosted by West Florida Public Libraries. Beginners are welcome. We will provide laptops and iPads.

Slimy Monster Party

  • Saturday, Sept. 15, 2 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Children are invited to attend a party featuring games, a story, crafts, treats, photo-ops and giveaways. Slimy Monsters are for boys and girls who wish to enjoy an afternoon of oozy-gooey fun at the library. Come dressed as your favorite monster if you wish. All materials will be provided. Suggested for children ages 3-12 years old.

YouTube Class

  • Wednesday, Sept. 19, 10:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Come learn how to create and manage a YouTube channel. We will cover everything from building a basic channel to managing a large-scale channel with playlists. The class will cover basic analytics, tagging and end screen cards and prompts of your videos. Basic computer skills and use a prerequisite. Computers available on site, but feel free to bring your laptop. 

Pinkalicious Party

  • Thursday, Sept. 20, 6 p.m. – Pensacola Library

Pinkalicious Party is for boys and girls ages 3-12 who enjoy the "Pinkalicious" books featuring Pinkalicious and her brother, Peter. Children will enjoy games, story time, a craft, photo-ops, treats and giveaways. You may dress up if you wish. All materials will be provided.

LEGO® at the Library

  • Saturday, Sept. 29, 10:30 a.m. – Pensacola Library

Come build cool stuff with LEGO® bricks. The library will provide the LEGO® bricks, you just need to bring your imagination. Duplo® bricks will be available for the little ones.

Westside Loopy Loomers – Westside Branch Library

Tryon Tuesday Movie Night for the Family – DUMBO

  • Tuesday, Sept. 18, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch Library

We are showing classic movies for the whole family once a month with popcorn. This month’s film is DUMBO, release date 1941, rated G, with a running time of 64 minutes.

Hunter Safety Class

  • Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch Library

Get ready for the fall hunting season. Hunters need this class to get their hunting license. This class requires completion of the Florida's free online hunter safety course before attending class. Salsa Cooking Class
