UPDATE: Commissioners to Host X Street Vacation Town Hall June 19

Published Jun 15, 2018
Please note new location.

District 2 Commissioner Doug Underhill and Vice Chairman & District 3 Commissioner Lumon May will host a town hall from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at the Brownsville Community Center located at 3200 W. De Soto St. to gather public input on the possible vacation of a section of X Street.

Brownsville Assembly of God is requesting that the Escambia County Commission vacate any interest in 51 feet of right of way on X Street between West De Soto Street and West Gonzalez Street.

The board of county commissioners may lawfully vacate any public interest in a dedicated right of way at a public meeting by vote of a majority of the commissioners. The vacated area then becomes totally private in nature.

According to the request, the Florida Housing Board has approved construction of an affordable senior housing residence on the two pieces of property owned by Brownsville Assembly of God. The church has stated in its request to the county that the road vacation would allow for safe crossing areas for the senior residents of the future housing, and that the development of the facility will help revitalize Brownsville and bring new businesses to the area.
