The Northwest Florida Water Management District is currently planning to conduct a 512 acre aerial prescribed burn in southwest Escambia County in the upcoming weeks IF conditions allow. This burn will be conducted on a portion of the Perdido River Water Management Area lying between Saufley Field and Perdido Bay. The objective of this burn is for fuel reduction and ecological enhancement of the natural flat woods/wet prairie/savannah ecosystem. It is being planned as an aerial burn using a helicopter along with specialized, low-ground pressure equipment on the ground. The burn will be conducted ONLY if proper weather conditions exist and with approval from the Florida Forest Service.
This notice is being sent to you or your agency as a general public information announcement, to solicit assistance, or simply as a “heads-up” notice of our upcoming plans. As always, with these large burns, we will need assistance and cooperation from numerous other agencies including law enforcement, local fire departments, DOT, EOC etc.
