Elder Health Nutrition

  • Tuesday, March 6, 10:30 - 11 a.m. at the Fricker Center,  900 N. F St., Pensacola.
  • Wednesday, March 7, 10:30 - 11 a.m. at Johnson Lake Apartments, 1400 E. Johnson Ave., Pensacola.
  • Monday, March 12, 10:30 - 11 a.m. at Westminster Apartments,  1700 N. L St., Pensacola. 
  • Tuesday, March 13, 10:30 - 11 a.m. at The Cobb Center, 601 E. Mallory St., Pensacola.
  • Thursday March 15, 10 - 11 a.m. at Bayview Senior Center,  2000 E. Lloyd St., Pensacola.

Elder health and nutrition education for participants at Council on Aging of West Florida senior dining sites. 

Science Hour: Seagrasses

  • Thursday, March 8, 6 - 7 p.m. at 3363 West Park Place, Pensacola. 

Join Santa Rosa County Sea Grant Agent Chris Verlinde to learn about local estuarine systems and the seagrass habitats within those systems. Chris will discuss the importance and benefits of these natural areas to the community and the Pensacola Bay system. 

Florida Master Naturalist Freshwater Wetlands Module

  • Tuesday, March 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Santa Rosa County Extension, 6263 Dogwood Drive, Milton. 

The Florida Master Naturalist Program includes three 40-hour courses: Uplands, Freshwater, and Coastal. The Escambia / Santa Rosa County Extension Office will be offering freshwater classes each Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Registration for the course can be found here. Field trip: Morrison Springs or Choctaw Field Steephead.

Composting

  • Wednesday, March 14, 6 - 7 p.m. at 1030 N. 57th Ave., Pensacola.

Recycling yard waste can lead to beautiful soil that is useable in pots and garden beds. Learn easy techniques to help you start backyard composting. Register online here or call 475-5230. Pick the session you want to attend. 

Florida Master Naturalist Freshwater Wetlands Module

  • Tuesday, March 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Escambia County Extension, 3740 Stefani Road, Pensacola.

The Florida Master Naturalist Program includes three 40-hour courses: Uplands, Freshwater, and Coastal. The Escambia / Santa Rosa County Extension Office will be offering freshwater classes each Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Registration for the course can be found here. Field trip: Gull Point Trail.

Pruning and Dividing Ornamental Grasses 

  • Wednesday, March 21, 9 - 11 a.m. at Escambia County Extension Offices.

Join UF/IFAS Extension Escambia County for a session on ornamental grass care. The hands on sessions will be open to only 15 attendees. Topics will include:

  • Ornamental grasses for our geographic area and pruning techniques for care and rejuvenation
  • How to divide grasses – hands-on practice optional
  • Free grass division to take home

Please join the Escambia County Master Gardener Volunteers for a session on how to keep your ornamental grasses beautiful in your home landscape for years to come. Free divisions will be available for the 15 attendees. Register here or call 475-5230.

The Gulf Coast Agriculture and Natural Resources Youth Organization Spring Livestock Show

  • Saturday, March 24 at the Escambia County 4-H Property, 5701 Highway 99, Molino. Show begins at 9 a.m., sales begin at 5 p.m.

This will be the fourth youth livestock show and sale at the new 4-H facility on South Highway 99. The Gulf Coast Agriculture and Natural Resources Youth Organization is a support organization of 4-H and Future Farmers of America. The organization gives the youth of Escambia County and surrounding counties of Florida and Alabama the opportunity to show off skills they have learned from their 4-H and FFA animal sciences projects. 

Florida Master Naturalist Freshwater Wetlands Module

  • Tuesday, March 27, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Santa Rosa County Extension, 6263 Dogwood Drive, Milton.

The Florida Master Naturalist Program includes three 40-hour courses: Uplands, Freshwater, and Coastal. The Escambia / Santa Rosa County Extension Office will be offering freshwater classes each Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Registration for the course can be found here. Field trip: Yellow River Marsh State Park on Garcon Point.

Growing Citrus

  • Wednesday, March 28, 6 - 7 p.m.  at 1030 N. 57 Ave., Pensacola.

There are several citrus that grow well in our area. Learn how to grow and care for your tree and about some issues facing citrus in our area. Register here and pick the session you want to attend. Call 475-5230 if registering by phone.
