Escambia Road Prison Inmate Captured

The Escambia County Road Prison inmate who escaped while on work duty this morning was found at approximately 3:45 p.m. Philip James Hammac was found hiding in the bed of a pickup truck in the Frito-Lay parking lot on McLemore Street. No injuries to the public, law enforcement or Hammac occurred. 

Hammac ran while the work crew and supervisors were picking up supplies from the county’s storage yard in Ellyson Industrial Park off North Davis Highway at approximately 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3. Deputies and K-9 teams from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the road prison searched the area until he was found.

Hammac is being held on charges of burglary, larceny and possession of methamphetamines. He has been at the Escambia County Road Prison since Oct. 16. Additional charges in light of today's escape are expected.
