Safety Improvement Project on Gulf Beach Highway and Cervantes Street Begins

Chipley A safety improvement project to construct sidewalk along a portion of State Road (S.R.) 292 (Gulf Beach Highway) from S.R. 727 (Fairview Drive) to Decatur Avenue and install lighting at the intersection of S.R. 10A (Cervantes Street) at N. E Street in Escambia County is scheduled to begin the week of Monday, Aug. 7. Work on the $255,889 project will take approximately three months to complete. Motorists can expect intermittent lane restrictions; however, there will be no lane closures from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Gulf Beach Highway and from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Cervantes Street.

Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through the construction zone, and to pay attention for workers and equipment entering and exiting the work area. 

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
