Street Light Installation Underway in Myrtle Grove

Published Jul 18, 2017

The installation of 701 LED street lights is underway in the Myrtle Grove area, with a goal of enhancing safety and deterring crime in the community. The approximately $450,700 project is being paid for by Escambia County through Community Development Block Grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Work is being completed by Gulf Power and is expected to take 10-12 weeks.

The Myrtle Grove Revitalization Group was instrumental in moving the project forward and working with Escambia County Neighborhood & Human Services staff to secure grant funding for the street lights.

In 2016, the Board of County Commissioners designated Myrtle Grove as a Safe Neighborhood Area, which provides funding for improvements for crime prevention and to reduce blight.
