The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for south central Escambia County until 3 p.m. today. According to NWS, radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area this morning. Up to to 3 inches of rain has already fallen, and flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Pensacola, Brent, West Pensacola, Warrington, Goulding and Myrtle Grove. Additional rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches are possible in the warned area this morning. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots. Escambia County Emergency Management reminds residents to "turn around, don't drown" when approaching areas with standing water. Do not drive through flooded areas. During a flood, more people drown in their cars than anywhere else. Do not drive around barricades, as there may not be a road or a bridge where one used to be.
